Friezing


Again it comes, the mammoth sale and flurry of hype around a temporary structure in Regent's park that begets a media sensation and show of money. But what fun! How I enjoy the carefree frolics among the works, spotting, here and there, the total scams that conceptualists have pulled on the buyers. And how droll it all is! Meanwhile we hardly have to struggle to maintain the art world veneer: it is there, here, everywhere falling on us like a laminating rain. There were some apt reflections of modern life too. Nothing forced, nothing abrasive that you are compelled to view, nothing as scary as when Donovan left me and his children to watch the Omen in the middle of a bright day in his sitting room....
