Six Pillars to Persia - outsider Iranian diaspora on Resonancefm

The second Six Pillars to Persia series kicks off on Monday 24th 1.30-2pm - the first live show since Resonancefm moved studios.

From specially commissioned music, to sound-art and outsider exhibitions straight from Iran, this series is slightly adrift from the last as it hunts an array of emerging artists and languages that describe the ever-increasing trend that is Iranian modernism.

Thanks to Sug Monkey for the artwork, his specially commissioned track will feature later in the series, as well his collaboration with Trans Global Underground (Hami) with another specially comissioned work. As advertised

Sky Say Ice Cream

I wish you'd stop talking and let me see
This memory
Barefoot and podgy beside the sea
On the safe and warm, orderly cement
Near the blue public loos where the paper's like card
And the now-unwanted sand is brushed off, cast down
To settle between cracks in a seemingly smooth surface.

Far off the sea forces us to breathe for at least an instant,
The sun hints at flossy horizons we do not see, we do not see
We take in only the sound of the gulls, and
The tinkling ice cream van where
An invisible man

Stretches out Mr Whippy-laden hands.

Here we batter our goods,
And read the news around our dinners.
Our hair, coarse,
Carries the salt and wind indoors, we
Love the green and rusting edges, we
Find pebbles, still warm
,
And proclaim all of it a nursery-ish heaven.

Here I have not aged,
The sky, uncluttered, speaks
Only of ease,
Nothing yet complicated:
Little known, little missed
All baked in heat.

And when each time I return,
The memory leaves me frivolous,
Jaunty, naughty and sun-kissed.

Post Bestival

No more the sunny green hills of IOW, it was great fun. My one hour live set was fun, as the soundscapes and dance tunes are always live, but the BBC Asian Network (who had the same stage the night before me) delivered a banging show. It was Nerm, I think, who closed with 31 Seconds. We missed Nathan fluteboxer, which was a shame. Only a night but it felt like a week!

So...back, to the Resonancefm launch very soon, and a new series of Six Pillars to Persia - as you may have read on a previous possst I've been deliberating about it, but so many things are coming up this season Iran-wise. The first shows looks at modern Iranian art and some specially commissioned audio for the show.

And still the sun shines on us! Ive finally got round to posting the video of our Resonance Circuit Workshop, above.
